Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior.
Autism is characterized by a wide range of symptoms and challenges that can vary greatly among individuals. Common signs of autism include difficulties with social interaction and communication, repetitive behaviours, and restricted interests. Some individuals with autism may have delayed language development or struggle with nonverbal communication cues such as eye contact and body language.
Sensory sensitivities, such as heightened responses to certain sounds, textures, or lights, are also common. While the exact cause of autism is not yet known, research suggests a combination of genetic and environmental factors contribute to its development.
